IN THEIR ELEMENT

Welcome to In Their Element – A conscious exploration of creativity, practice and flow with people we admire from all walks of life.

For this volume, we visit multidisciplinary artist, musician and mum Elle-Louise Burguez at her beachside abode in Queensland.

In between home renovations, her various artistic pursuits and raising her beautiful son, Pascal, Elle graciously took the time to open her mind – sharing the habits, routines and inspirations that drive her creatively.

Where and when do you feel most in your element?

At the moment I feel most in my element either in my little art studio, at the beach with my family or I’m really loving being amongst flowers at night time! Cool night air mixed with the scent of jasmine makes me feel truly alive.

Is there a daily ritual that keeps you connected to your most authentic self?

Yoga in the mornings, writing or drawing in my journal and calm intimate moments with my partner and beautiful toddler.

Is there a philosophy or mantra that you return to?

Life is happening through us-, it is not happening to us. I try to think of this in uncomfortable or yucky times.  I can change or shift the vibe in an instant if I need to. I can try to tap into my higher self or a joyful spirit. Maybe the day has been going horribly, well then I better make the afternoon have some magic in it!

"Since being pregnant a few years ago I have always had Indian Ragas on repeat or Bamboo Flutes. These types of songs make me feel so peaceful and give me hope for a vibrantly simple life.. Oh and Bossa Nova always."
WHAT DOES YOUR IDEAL DAY LOOK LIKE?

Wake up well rested (lol will this ever happen again?), breakfast on the beach, swims and surfing, dolphin visits, painting for a few hours, pizza or a divine meal with my little family, loud thunder storms all afternoon whilst we play board games and watch films.. or I could add in there- see some live music as well.

WHAT IS A TIME, MOMENT OR PLACE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL MOST NOSTALGIC AND WHY?

Whenever I arrive in Greece I have strange flashbacks to a dream or possible past life there. But also- thinking back to the years where I was around 12-15 years old.. I can smell certain lime and coconut body mists and feel the feeling of being a young girl and desperately in love with the world but also so full of angst.
