In Her Element with Courtney McIntosh

Welcome to In Her Element. A conscious exploration of creativity, practice and flow with people we admire from all walks of life.

For this volume, we sit down with mum, creative and style visionary, Courtney McIntosh, founder of THE INARRA.

Courtney, a mother to two young boys, created THE INARRA as a way to join like-minded, new mothers together and help define their style journey postpartum. The online community is a place for many women to be inspired across all stages of motherhood.

Where do you feel most in your element?

Definitely that sweet spot after the school drop-off chaos when I’ve got my morning coffee, my inbox is (somewhat) under control, and I’ve got a quiet moment to breathe and create. Whether I’m pulling pieces for a shoot, working on a story or a style edit, that’s when I feel most myself. Clear headed and in my zone.

Is there a ritual or habit that keeps you connected to yourself?

Getting dressed. Not in a 'let's make this complicated' way, but in a ‘this outfit makes me feel like me again’ kind of way. Style has always been my anchor. When everything’s a mess, it gives me a moment to reset and feel like I’ve got a handle on things. Also, I swear by a solo walk and a good playlist or a pilates class!

What’s a philosophy or mantra you return to?

"Create what you wish existed." That’s the line that’s driven everything from launching THE INARRA to how I parent, dress, and build community. If something feels missing, I try to create it with heart, hustle, and a bit of polish.

What’s a moment in your life that shaped how you see yourself today?

Becoming a mum, without a doubt. Nothing prepares you for that identity shift. Suddenly you’re sleep-deprived, holding a baby, and wondering who you even are anymore. THE INARRA came out of that blur. It was my way of reconnecting to myself and my creativity, while also building something for other women in the thick of it too. It’s been equal parts passion project and deeply cathartic for me… and it’s shaped me into a more grounded, more real, more me version of myself.

How would you describe your style—not just in fashion, but in how you carry yourself?

I’d say relaxed but refined. I’m not chasing trends, I’m chasing ease and feeling good in my skin. Think tailored with a twist, a bit undone, and always wearable. I love texture, layers, and neutrals with bite. The same applies to how I move through life. I try to keep it honest, intuitive, and anchored in what feels good in the moment.

What role does jewellery play in your style or self-expression?

Jewellery’s like the quiet best friend of every outfit. I’m not the ‘more is more’ type, but I love meaningful pieces that I wear on repeat. A delicate chain, a vintage ring, something gifted or passed down, they become part of my daily go-to.

Do you have a piece of jewellery that tells a story?

My engagement ring, hands down. It originally belonged to my beautiful late mother-in-law, gifted to her by her husband John for their 30th wedding anniversary. It’s timeless, full of love, and now a family heirloom I feel incredibly honoured to wear. I never take it off. Every time I look at it, I think of her strength, their love, and the generations it will hopefully pass through after me. A daily reminder of what’s important in life!
